NOKESVILLE, VA (October 12, 2026) — For nearly a quarter century, there has been a lot of movement inside the little chapel on Fitzwater Drive that Prince William Dance Academy calls home.
First ballet classes. Tap shoes. Recital rehearsals. Generations of dancers growing up together. Families waving from the sidelines of the Nokesville Day Parade.
Now, as Prince William Dance Academy celebrates its 25th season in Nokesville, founder and director Kim Teachout Thomas is adding something new to the studio she has spent decades building: yoga for the community, offered in partnership with Alternative Energy Hatha Yoga.
And the woman leading it already knows the studio well.
Gwen Fletcher grew up in Nokesville and graduated from Prince William Dance Academy in 2009. After continuing her dance education in Boston and Washington, D.C., she completed her yoga teacher training at Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville and eventually returned home.
Today, Ms. Gwen serves as Director of Studio Operations and Enrollment at PWDA, owns and teaches through Alternative Energy Hatha Yoga, and serves on the board of the Nokesville Business Association.
For Ms. Kim, that makes this partnership about much more than adding yoga to the schedule.
“One of the greatest gifts of being here this long is getting to watch our dancers grow up and then seeing the ways they come back and become part of this community as adults,” said Thomas. “Gwen grew up here. She knows PWDA, she knows Nokesville, and she shares our belief that people need places where they can move, connect and feel like they belong. I’m incredibly proud to have her bringing something of her own back through these doors.”

Nokesville native Gwen Fletcher, founder of Alternative Energy Hatha Yoga and Director of Studio Operations and Enrollment at Prince William Dance Academy, brings mindful movement and Hatha yoga to the PWDA community in Nokesville, Virginia.

The partnership between PWDA and Alternative Energy Hatha Yoga is a particularly full-circle one.
Ms. Gwen is not simply an outside instructor using the studio. She is part of the PWDA team, a former PWDA dancer and a lifelong member of the Nokesville community.
Through Alternative Energy Hatha Yoga, she is now helping PWDA expand the role it can play for local families.
“I grew up here, and PWDA was a huge part of that,” said Fletcher. “To come back to Nokesville and now be able to share yoga in the same place where I spent so much of my own childhood feels really special. I want this to be something our neighbors can walk into whether they’ve practiced yoga for years or have never stepped onto a mat before.”

PWDA founder Kim Teachout Thomas and longtime PWDA dancer turned yoga instructor Gwen Fletcher celebrate a new chapter of movement and community during Prince William Dance Academy’s 25th season in Nokesville, Virginia.
The new collaboration brings several yoga classes and experiences to Nokesville, VA, with programs created for different stages of life.
Hatha Yoga for Adults meets Friday evenings at PWDA and offers a welcoming practice centered around movement, stretching, strength and breathing, with options for different experience levels.
Baby & Me Yoga begins October 14 and gives parents and caregivers of babies ages 6–12 months a place to move, breathe, play and spend intentional time together.
For children, Zen Zone: Yoga for Kids comes to PWDA on November 3 with age-appropriate yoga, mindful activities, creativity and connection during a school day off.
Yoga combines physical postures, breathing and mindful practices, and research suggests it may support stress management, mental and emotional well-being, sleep and balance in adults. Research involving children has also found encouraging evidence around relaxation, focus and self-regulation.
But for Ms. Kim and Ms. Gwen, the goal is not to turn yoga into one more thing families have to be good at.
It is to create another place to come together.
Ms. Kim founded Prince William Dance Academy in 2002 with a vision for a neighborhood studio where students could learn, perform, build friendships and feel known.
More than two decades later, PWDA dancers still participate in community traditions like the Nokesville Day Parade, families still walk through the doors of the studio's historic Fitzwater Drive chapel each week, and some of the children who once grew up at PWDA are now helping shape what comes next.
That is part of what the studio's 25th season represents.
Not simply how long PWDA has been in Nokesville, but how deeply the two have grown together.
“PWDA has never just been about what happens during a dance class,” said Thomas. “This community has supported us for 25 seasons, and we want to keep finding ways to give people a reason to come through our doors, know one another and feel at home here.”
The partnership with Alternative Energy Hatha Yoga is one more way the studio is doing exactly that.
